Here i bring for you some daily cooking home dishes.. Simple, easy south-indian dhal curry! Try and enjoy!
1. Sundakkai Sambar(Turkey berry Dhal curry):
Sundakkai is a medicinal veggie too, its good for stomach related problems, destroys worms and other achs..! Try!
This is one of my favourite dishes back home. My dad loves it too! So amma makes it atleast twice in a week as sambar or kootu(sabji).. I thought i won't get it here.. But, last week got it for a surprise from the market..!

Ingredients:
1. Sundakkai(Turkey berry) - 1 cup,
2. Toor dhal - 1 cup,
3. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp,
4. Salt - as needed,
5. Asefeotida powder - 1 tsp,
6. Onion - 1 chopped finely,
7. Tomato - 1 chopped finely,
8. Dry chilly - 1,
9. Curry leaves - 1 string,
10. Red chilly powder - 1 tsp,
11. Sakthi sambar powder - 1 tsp,
12. Tamarind juice - 1/4 cup,
13. Oil - as needed,
14. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp,
15. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp.

How to make this?
1. Pressure cook the dal with turmeric powder and 1/2tsp asefeotida powder, water for 2 whistles and mash it.
2. Put the washed sundakkai in a plastic bag close it and give a crush a little with a laddle.(b'coz chopping them is a big task..)
3. Heat oil in kadai, add the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let them splutter. Now add the chilly, asefeotida powder, curry leaves and onion and saute well.
4. Add the tomatoes and saute till mashed. Add the crushed sundakkai, salt, red chilly powder, sambar powder and saute for 2mins.
5. Convert this to the dhal in the pressure cooker, add the tamarind juice. Check salt and taste add enough water and close lid, cook for 1 whistle.
6. Remove cover and boil till the right consistency and convert to serving bowl.
Tastes great with steaming rice..! Enjoy!
2. Onion dhal chutney:
This is one of my favt chutney.. My hubby loves all my chuntey, this is one of them.
Enjoy!

Ingredients:
1. Onion - 4 cut in to small pieces,
2. Dry chilly - 4,
3. Urad dhal - 2 tsp,
4. Tamarind paste - 1/2 tsp/as needed,
5. Salt - as needed,
6. Oil - as needed,
7. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp,
8. Curry leaves - 1 string,
9. Asefeotida powder - 1 tsp.
How to make this?
1. Heat oil in kadai, add the urad dhal and saute till they turn golden brown. take it out. Add the dry chillies, saute a min and take it out. Add the onions and saute till they turn light brown. Cool them.
2. In a blender put the onions, chilly, urad dhal, salt, tamarind paste and grind it in to a smooth paste. Convert to a serving bowl.
3. Heat oil in kadai, splutter the mustard, add the asefeotida powder and curry leaves and convert it on the chutney with hot oil. Mix well together and serve..!
Tastes excellent with hot idlis/crispy dosa with gingerly oil..! Enjoy!!

Nice to see this sambar after so many months. We don't get sundakkai here in saudi.
my mother in law prepares this sundakkai sambar da. she also prepares kuttu with this along with sundakkai. That will also taste tooooooo good.

yah, onion chutney looks yummy. but may i ask that can we use any other subtitute instead of tamrind? i.e. vinegar or lemon juice? please let us know. thanks

@ Shaikh - You can add a tomato instead of tamarind, will taste even better. Don't add vinegar/lemon juice..!

Lovely dishes, I just love Sundakkai but we don't get it here. Everytime i go back home, buy and savour this fresh and bring back Sundakkai Vathal here.
